Scope and Content Broch at Burroughston, Shapinsay, Orkney The Broch of Burroughston stands at the NE tip of Shapinsay. The interior was cleared out during the 1860s. The structure has since been partly restored. This plan shows the layout of the broch. The entrance passage faces the sea and there is a guard cell in the southern wall. Inside are further galleries and a well. The site is partially surrounded by a wall, ditch and rampart. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
