Date 28/7/1901

Collection Records of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland

Scope and Content Small black and white photograph of a stone, approximate dimensions: about 2 feet x 1 foot, with the bottom edge scooped out to form a semi-circular arch, taken astride a path leading to a fence or gate. Inscribed on reverse: 'Camelon - Roman Stone found at; Photo by Mr Buchanan 28th July 1901; Thomas Ross'. A published photograph (Proc Soc Antiq Scot, vol 35, 1900-01, Fig 8, p.378) shows the stone in isolation, without background; the caption reads "Stone from a cottage at Camelon 1/12". The text below reads "The stone (fig.8) has been removed to his new residence by Mr.Harrison, the representative of the famiily who has alaways taken an interest in its preservation. It is 3 feet 6 inches long, 1 foot 6 inches in height, and 1 foot 3 inches deep, and seems to have been the frieze over a niche. The moulding is made to take the shape of an arch, occupying the greater par of the length of the stone, the underside bejng hollowed out to form a coving."
