Scope and Content Entrance to pend, front of west range Pittenweem Priory, Pittenweem, Recorded on the mounted print: 'Scottish National Buildings Record. Shire: Fife. Place: Pittenweem. Building: Priory - Market Place. Great House. West elevation. Photographer: F.B. Date: July 1963'. Pittenweem Priory was founded in the 13th century when Augustinian priors moved to the site from the Isle of May. The surviving buildings, probably dating from the 15th century, have been substantially altered and restored since the Middle Ages. The arched doorway, possibly dating from the 16th century, opens to a pend or passage leading to the other side of the west range. Probably originally a dormitory or refectory, this building was converted to a manse in 1588. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
