Scope and Content Ormond Castle, a medieval castle first built by William the Lion between 1200 and 1214 as a royal border fortress between the lands of Scotia and the Norse in Sutherland. Through the centuries the castle passed through a number of families. It was destroyed in the 1650s by Oliver Cromwell. The stone was used by him to build his fortress at Inverness. Only ruins of the castle remain today. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
