Oblique aerial view of Inverness Retail and Business Park and the former Longman landfill site, looking NW.

DP 343476

Description Oblique aerial view of Inverness Retail and Business Park and the former Longman landfill site, looking NW.

Date 8/4/2015

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 343476

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content At the A96 roundabout, where the Eastfield Way exit gives access to the Retail Park, is the site of the Bronze Age Stoneyfield House cemetery, also known as the Ba Cemetery, along with other features. The 18th-C white, 3-bay Stoneyfield House is in the upper left sector of the image, in the centre of the cluster of buildings beyond the Retail Park. Out on the mud flats, a fish trap is seen at the water's edge, in the shape of a shallow "V". This is a valuable image, given the vagaries of tide, weather, light and accessibility, as well as the necessity of obtaining an aerial perspective. The flat open area at upper left is the Longman landfill site, closed in 2003. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
