Description Aerial view of East Inverness, looking NE.

Date 22/7/2014

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 343353

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This view of the eastern side of Inverness is divided neatly by the B9006 - the Old Perth Road - which winds up through the trees in the middle of the picture. On its left are, from top to bottom (north to south), the Longman Industrial Estate, the Cameron Barracks, Inverness Golf Course and Viewfield and at the bottom, the Clubhouse at the golf course. To the right of the Old Perth Road is Raigmore estate and Raigmore Hospital. The Longman landfill site is at top of photo and the A9 runs from top left to centre right. The Longman Industrial Estate is a post-war development. The Cameron Barracks were built 1880-1886 and the golf course was established at Culcabock in 1885. The Raigmore Estate is one of many post-war housing estates and Raigmore Hospital was established in 1941, though the present buildings date from the 1970s. The landfill site was closed in 2003. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
