Description Aerial view of circular feature at Lochnellan Farm, near Grantown on Spey, looking E.

Date 31/10/2010

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 342263

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This is a view of an interesting feature near Lochnellan Farm to the east of Lochindorb. There is no record of any archaeology at this site, but there are several butts shown on the map. The lochans to the east of the buildings are Loch an Eilein and Loch an Dunain. Lochnellan Farm appears in the OS name books where it is described as 'a farm dwelling having suitable offices attached situated near the loch from which it derives its name'. The old Grantown to Forres railway runs across the top of the photo, in front of the two woodlands. The rail tracks have now been removed, and the line has become a long-distance footpath, the Dava Way. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
