Description Aerial view of Nigg Fabrication Yard, Tarbat peninsula, looking E.

Date 26/9/2010

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 342235

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This is a close view of the Nigg Fabrication Yard opened in 1972. There is evidence of a saltworks in the basin at centre right and military remains both on the shore to the right of picture and also on the North Sutor which is at upper right. The pier at centre right is the terminal for the Nigg-Cromarty ferry. The ferry crossing between Cromarty and Nigg is well documented going back to Robert the Bruce. The remains of Dunskeath Castle are on the headland above the pier. Dunskeath Castle was fortified by William the Lion in 1179, but only earthworks remain. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
