Description An oblique aerial view of Tarbat Ness, looking ENE.

Date 17/1/2010

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 341892

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content A general view with Tarbat Ness Lighthouse in the upper left together with the Keeper's Cottage and a beacon all within an enclosure wall. To the left of the lighthouse complex in the topmost part of the large field an undated enclosure has been noted and nearby a ring brooch and lozenge shaped buckle were discovered in the 19th century. Just to the right of centre a steep sided gulley leads down to the shore where there is a small fishing station complex with slipway and winch. Along the top of the cliff on either side of the gulley, fragments of wall foundation are presumed to predate the existing field layout. A number of wrecks have been recorded in the waters around the ness. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
