Scope and Content Cromarty was a seaport, ferry port and medieval burgh, dating back to at least the 13th-C. To right of the Harbour, the buildings forming three sides of a square were a hemp works and rope walk. In upper right sector of image is the cemetery and 18th-C Gaelic Chapel known as The Paye. The Fishertown is by the shore at upper centre. Beyond, and subsequently lost to the waves, stood the ancient church dedicated to St Moluag. At top right corner Cromarty House is visible, an 18th-C mansion built for the Urquhart lairds of Cromarty, replacing their nearby castle, which was demolished. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
