Scope and Content Fort known as Buaile Oscar at Ben Freiceadain, Caithness, Highland Buaile Oscar is an extensive fort built on the summit of Ben Freiceadain. The fort makes use of natural defences and the pits for quarrying stone to build the ramparts can be seen. A long, grassy mound inside the fort is a chambered cairn. This is a view of the fort. It uses the steep sides to the N and E with a large rampart protecting the other sides, following a natural terrace partway down the hill. The entrance is on the NE side, where one of the stone lining slabs can seen. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
