Scope and Content This is a general view of Cromarty, which became a Royal Burgh in the C13. Many of the buildings are of historical significance. The Ropeworks (left of harbour) were built in 1773-76 and converted into housing in 1984. The harbour was begun in 1785 and adapted for military use in 1914 with the building of the Admiralty Pier. The ferry from Nigg uses the slipway to the east of the harbour. The lighthouse was built in 1846 and there was a seaplane base during WW2 on the links at right of picture. The Gaelic Chapel (bottom of picture) was built in 1783 but is now roofless. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
