Scope and Content In the foreground there are the remains of a dun, a chambered cairn, a late 18th century church and a fish trap in the firth. Dingwall (name of Norse origin) is a medieval burgh and former county town, now a growing dormitory town. A short canal built in 1819 links the shallow of the firth to a now disused harbour.
