An oblique aerial view of Dola, Lairg, Sutherland, looking NE.

SC 1906815

Description An oblique aerial view of Dola, Lairg, Sutherland, looking NE.

Date 2000

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1906815

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content A close view of part of the former township with features from the early modern period. The building in the centre, the enclosure to its left and the second building to its right are all more degraded and more overgrown, perhaps suggesting that they are earlier than the other buildings and enclosures. These fields were cultivated in the bronze and iron age and some of the clearance cairns scattered across the image may date to those periods. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
