Scope and Content Foyers was built on Loch Ness to serve the aluminium smelter which was opened in 1896 by British Aluminium Co. Ltd and closed in 1970. The large building to right of centre is all that remains of these works. The power station is left of centre and was completed in 1975, using a pumped storage system, developing the scheme created for the aluminium smelter in 1896.
