SC 1903252

Description Oblique aerial view of settlement site and burial ground at Cladh Maireannaich, Strath Brora, Sutherland, looking SE.

Date 2000

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1903252

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content The image shows the burial ground and post-mediaeval township at Cladh Maireannaich beside the waters of the Brora. Cill Mhearain, St Mirren's Church, noted by Watson as one of 7 churches of Strathbrora, probably stood in this burial ground. The cemetery was renovated in the mid-20th-C. In lower right quadrant the footings of a house (?and byre) of three or four compartments are visible, closely resembling a similar footprint bisected by a drystane dyke at Cnoc an Torra Mhoir. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
