Scope and Content At the top is the church of the former parish of Kilchrist, united with Urray in 1574, traditionally said to have been burnt in 1603. The church was re-roofed circa 1870 and is now the mausoleum of the MacKenzies of Ord. In the middle foreground is the site of Gilchrist promontory fort. Crop marks from aerial photos show an arc of 3 concentric ditches which formed part of the defensive system, early Bronze age to Pictish. The site was excavated by North of Scotland Archaeological Society in 2018. Mansfield show ground is on the R.
