Scope and Content Nairn is a Royal Burgh, founded circa 1200 and sited at the mouth of the River Nairn. This view focuses on part of the west side of the town with the road to Inverness running off at centre right. The Old Parish Church,(1893-7) is at centre left and St. Mary's RC Church and Manse (1864) are on the corner to its left. The open area in the centre of the photo is where the Highland Games are held every August. Rosebank Primary School is at centre left. This establishment was built in 1832 and initially named Rose's Academical Institution. It was renamed Nairn Academy in 1893 and remained the secondary school for Nairn till the new academy was built in 1976. The station (1885) is at upper left.
