Aerial view of Ben Griam Beg, Sutherland, looking W.

SC 1896737

Description Aerial view of Ben Griam Beg, Sutherland, looking W.

Date 1998

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1896737

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This is a close view of Ben Griam Beg, showing the various walls and enclosures on the southern slopes of the hill. Ben Griam Beg is in the record as the highest hill fort in Scotland, but the number of enclosures below the fort raises questions about what exactly this site is. A late C19 source suggests that it was used as a deer trap after the fort was abandoned. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
