Scope and Content A general view of Halkirk with the road bridge visible upper left. Above it towards the top is the long white Combination Poor House. Far left of the bridge and closest to the river is the water mill and on the same side of the river but far right the white gable wall of the manse stands out from surrounding by trees. Above that across the river the 19th century Braal Castle and the site of an earlier castle are enveloped by more woodland and just below and in the fields to the left of the woodland is the site of a 20th century military camp. The site of the medieval Bishop's Palace lies in the field to the right of the castle and to the right of the manse.
