Scope and Content This fine view is of the Nigg, separating Cromarty at the tip of the Black Isle from the southern end of Tarbat Ness promontory. Nigg Bay is at top middle. Cromarty is in the foreground, the near right side was the Fishertown settlement. The harbour in the centre, constructed circa 1880, played an important part in the hemp industry and fishing. A ferry runs in summer across the Cromarty Firth to Nigg top right. The jetty off Nigg serves the oil terminal. The marine dock and buildings of the Nigg fabrication yard are to the right.
