SC 1896571

Description Aerial view of Tain, Easter Ross, looking W.

Date 1998

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1896571

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content The town of Tain is to the left and has many Canmore and HER references to buildings , too distant to note. To lower right in the foreground are the remains of St Duthac's chapel, surrounded by a modern cemetery. The chapel is probably 13c, and was destroyed by McNeill of Creich in 1429. Above is the site of a possible harbour and early medieval settlement. Kirksheaf farm is in the centre foreground with references to a farmstead. The main railway line runs diagonally at the right of the photo. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
