Scope and Content Dornoch Cathedral of Mary and St Gilbert, at the top of the photo, was founded in 1223, it was burnt down by the MacKays in 1570, and lay ruined until partially restored in 17c. Further restoration and rebuilding destroyed most of the original buildings in 19c. There are references to its cemetery. In front is the Bishop's Palace, 15c, a high tower with crowstepped gables, destroyed in 1570 and rebuilt in 1813 as the Court House and Prison. There are numerous references to other buildings in Dornoch, visible in the photo. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
