Date 1998

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1896304

Scope and Content The area in the image includes numerous prehistoric sites. The modern feature at bottom left is the Little Loch Shin Dam, which regulates the flow of the River Shin. In the area beyond the junction of the B864 (upper left) and A839 (curving to right) the area includes stone cairns and 2 visible hut circles, all within a Neolithic to Late Iron Age cairnfield, which borders on The Cashel hut circle and field system. To right of the A839 is the SE end of The Ord, an extensive Scheduled Monument comprising chambered cairns, cairns, settlements and field systems, including numerous hut circles. A large enclosure enclosed by turf and stone bank is conspicuous. Large areas of rig and furrow are visible nearby, with what appear to be field clearance cairns at bottom right corner of image.
