SC 1867223

Description Oblique aerial view of Ardgay, Sutherland, looking SE.

Date 1997

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1867223

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This view shows the Medieval Burgh/Village of Ardgay (Canmore ID 68554) at the head of the Dornoch Firth. Together with Bonar Bridge it used to be an important centre on the main route from Inverness to Thurso and Wick but with the construction of the new A9 and the Dornoch Bridge it has been bypassed. The railway still passes through Ardgay and the Station (Canmore ID 14055) serves the area. Kincardine Parish Church (Canmore ID 13882) and a Pictish Symbol stone (Canmore ID 269431) are located beyond the trees at the very top of the view. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
