Scope and Content This is a view of Cromarty and the Fabrication Yard at Nigg. Cromarty became a Royal Burgh in the C13 and many of the buildings are of historical significance. There are records of a military camp on the fields to the south west of the town. The oil rig construction yard opened in Nigg Bay in 1972. By 2010 as a result of the downturn in the market, the yard was mothballed but in 2011 it gained a new lease of life as a hub for the energy industry.
