SC 1865110

Description Aerial view of Loch Ness, looking SW.

Date 1994

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1865110

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This is a general view of Loch Ness with Loch Dochfour at bottom right. Meall Fuar-mhonaidh can be seen in the distance. Aldourie Castle is among the trees at the south-eastern end of the loch and below Tor Point, where the loch widens. Aldourie was first recorded as a laird's house in 1626 and is now the only habitable castle on Loch Ness. It's now a modern sporting estate and hired out to private parties. Bona Lighthouse is situated on the point where Loch Dochfour joins Loch Ness and was developed from a Telford building. It has been converted into holiday accommodation. The village of Lochend can just be seen to its right. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
