Scope and Content Brora was developed in the C19, though earlier activity in the area involved coal mining, brick and tile manufacture, and salt pans. The village was laid out in a grid pattern in 1814. The mine and brickworks were closed in 1970. The salt pans operated on the shore towards top left in three distinct phases - 1598-1617, 1767-1777, and 1812-1828 and between 2007 and 2011 an excavation on the site of the old and new salt works was undertaken. There is a Links golf course to the north of the village at left of picture. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
