Scope and Content This is a general view of the western side of Inverness. The Canal runs from centre left to the Muirtown Basin and the sea lock at Clachnaharry. Above the canal is the Scorguie housing estate, developed in the 1970s, and below is Dalneigh which was developed in the 1950s. Muirtown is at centre right. Inverness High School is at the bottom of the picture. It was founded after the Disruption of 1843 and occupied premises in the Crown area before moving to its present site in 1937. Built in Art Deco style, it specialised in Technical, Domestic and Commercial subjects but when Comprehensive Education was introduced specialisation ended. The small green area at the centre of the photo is Caledonian Football Club's ground on Telford Street. This was sold for commercial development after the amalgamation of two of Inverness's football clubs and the building of the new stadium on the Longman in the 1990s. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
