Scope and Content This is a general view of Scorguie, Muirtown and Dalneigh on the west side of Inverness. Dalneigh is a housing estate established in the immediate post-war period. Development of Scorguie, Muirtown and Kinmylies began in the 1970s. The historic fishing village of Clachnaharry can barely be seen on the Caldonian Canal at upper right of picture. The Caledonian Canal runs from bottom centre to the sea lock on the Beauly Firth at Clachnaharry and the Muirtown Basin can be seen at centre right. Charleston Academy and Kinmylies Primary School are to the left of centre. Both were built in the mid 1970s to serve the population of the new housing estates. Dalneigh Primary School (opened 1957) is just to right of centre. Among the trees is the vitrified fort of Craig Phadrig, which is supposed to be the site of the Pictish King's conversion to Christianity in 565. Just coming into view at the bottom of the photo is Tomnahurich Cemetery, which was laid out in 1863. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
