Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1864934

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content The Kessock Bridge was opened in 1982 to take the rerouted A9 over the Kessock narrows. It replaced a ferry which had been operating between South and North Kessock for at least 400 years. At the mouth of the River Ness is the Western Breakwater and Cairn Arc, an ancient cairn set up to warn approaching vessels of danger at the river mouth. The Longman Quay was constructed in 1985 on the east side of the river as part of the expansion of the harbour. The Longman Industrial Estate is on the lower right of picture and South Kessock is at lower left. The Cromarty Firth can just be seen at top left and below it is Ord Hill with its vitrified fort. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
