Scope and Content Fort, fortlet and settlement at Croy Hill, North Lanarkshire This Roman fort, fortlet and civilian settlement are on Croy Hill. They are built on a plateau, 300m NE from the summit, and over looking the Kelvin valley. The fortlet is 80 m SW of the fort and the settlement is to the S. This is an aerial view of the site. Cropmarks show the location of the fort and part of the settlement, next to the Antonine Wall. The fort was built on top of an earlier enclosure, possibly also Roman in date. Excavations in the 19th century uncovered the location of the fort's headquarters building. Also found were inscribed stones showing that a detachment from the Sixth Legion occupied the area for a while. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
