Scope and Content Fort at Ladyward, Dumfries and Galloway This Roman fort is at Ladyward. It is built on the left bank of Dryfe Water, near its confluence with the Annan. Part of the fort, including an annexe, has been lost due to erosion, but what remains suggests two periods of use. This is an aerial view of the site. The fort can be seen as a series of cropmarks left of the bend in the river. The fort covered 2 ha and was surrounded by a system of five ditches, the layout of which suggests that the fort was rebuilt at least once. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
