Scope and Content Fort and cultivation remains at Doon of Carsluith, Dumfries and Galloway Occupying the summit of Doon of Carsluith, a knoll which rises steeply from the shore of Wigtown Bay, are the remains of a fort. The fort occupies a position of natural strength with steep slopes on all sides except the northern approach where there is an extra outer wall (lower left). Inside the fort are cultivation remains which have removed any trace of structures. Whilst appearing impressive, many hillforts probably were constructed as displays of prestige and power by tribal leaders, often occupying prominent positions in the landscape.
