Scope and Content Possible henge monument at Clachan Burn, South Lanarkshire The broad ditch of this small henge was revealed as a cropmark on oblique aerial photographs. It is broken by an entrance causeway on the E. The ditch of this henge can be seen as a dark penannular ring below the centre of this aerial photograph. The SW arc of the ditch was excavated and was found to be between 3m to 4m broad and 1.1m deep. The interior was 3m to 6m in diameter. This possible henge has been ploughed flat and is situated in an arable field to the SW of the River Clyde. It was partially excavated in 1992, along with a narrow ring-ditch and a pit, when the area was threatened by a proposed gravel quarry. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
