Oblique aerial photograph

SC 1727715

Description Oblique aerial photograph

Date 7/1972

Collection John Dewar

Catalogue Number SC 1727715

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of LA 2950 CN

Scope and Content Henge at Normangill, South Lanarkshire This henge is at Normangill, in the valley of Camps Water. It is a fine example of a Neolithic ritual site, but has been cut in two by the railway (now a road). The site has been further disturbed by a sheepfold built at the end of the W bank. This aerial view shows the sites layout. It is oval in shape and enclosed by a bank and ditch. The entrances, to the NNW and SSE, are wider than usual on this type on monument. There may have originally been a setting of timber posts around the ditch. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
