Scope and Content Aerial view of a souterrain at Glencarse, Perth and Kinross Situated in arable farmland about 650m south-west of Glendoick are the cropmarks of a unenclosed prehistoric settlement. Aerial photography has recorded cropmarks of several similar sites in the vicinity. The dark crescent-shaped cropmark is characteristic of a souterrain, a dry-stone semi-subterranean structure probably used for storage in settlements of Iron Age date. Over 200 souterrains are on record in Scotland, and are relatively common in Fife, Perth and Angus. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
