Scope and Content Town of Arinagour, Coll, Argyll and Bute The fishing village of Arinagour, meaning 'sheiling of the goats', is located at the head of Loch Ithiuriune on the east coast of the island of Coll. Built in the mid-19th century, it is the main settlement and port on the island. This view shows Arinagour from the south. The harbour area can be seen (centre). The church, located on a rise to the west of the settlement (left), was built in 1907. Prior to its construction the congregation travelled to the church at Clabach on the north side of the loch. The large white building on the shore at the foot of the rise is the Coll Hotel. The island of Coll was once home to Mairi Hedderwick (born 1939), author of the Katie Morag children's books. The fictional island of Struay, home to Katie Morag, is based on her own experiences of living on Coll. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
