Scope and Content Broch at Edinshall, Scottish Borders This broch is built within the remains of an earlier fort at Edinshall. In the late 18th century the site was known as Wooden's Hall (or Castle) after Woden or Odin. It has also been linked to the folktale of Red Etin. This is a plan of the site. The oval fort was the earliest feature consisting of ramparts and ditches. The broch was built inside the remains. The rectangular enclosure around the broch and the hut circles belong to the last phase. In Roman times, this area belonged to the tribe known as the Votadini, who appear to have had a peaceful relationship with Roman authority.. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
