Description Interior general view. Boiler House. Basement. Furnace Ash Hopper area, ash plant. Here the clinker (material left after coal burnt to heat boilers to generate steam for turbines) would be broken up by hand. The worker would stand on the platform to do this. The roller visible on the edge of the platform was to ease the backward and forward movement of hooks which were used to pull the larger pieces of clinker that could not be broken up to the open area in front of the hopper as on the left
