Scope and Content This report presents the results of a desk-based assessment and Level 1 standing building survey carried out by CFA Archaeology Ltd in 2008 at Sumburgh Head Lighthouse, Shetland. The work was commissioned by Nicholas Groves Raines Architects on behalf of the Shetland Amenity Trust (SAT). SAT was developing a Conservation Management Plan for the lighthouse to inform a future Heritage Lottery Fund bid for the renovation, conservation and redevelopment of the lighthouse complex into holiday accomodation, a new RSPB education centre and offices. The lighthouse is owned by the Northern Lighthouse Board and is not part of the development proposal. The report contains 53 pages of survey results, plus 9 pages of maps and diagrams, 8 pages of colour photos and 16 pages of thumbnail colour images, 92 pages in all. Appendices include a Sites and Monuments Gazetteer, a photographic register, a list of Northern Lighthouse Board plans and drawings housed in the NMRS, Edinburgh, a list of NLB Secretary's correspondence and Reports 1901-1930 at NLS, and a Historic Map Regression Analysis.
