Scope and Content Titled: 'Hamilton Burgh Buildings' with descriptive caption: 'These fine buildings, completed in 1863, from designs by Messrs Clarke & Bell, Glasgow, occupy the south-east corner site at the intersection of Duke and Quarry streets. They are in the modern Scotch Barolnial style of Architecture, and though they have none of the elaborate ornamentation which that style admits, they are finely relieved from plainess by the judicious placing of a few pieces of carved work. the most prominent object connected with these buildings is the corner tower, which is extremely chaste in design and well balanced in its parts. It rises to a height of about 130 feet, and as a specimen of modern tower architecture will stand comparison with any similar erection of its size in the country'.
