Scope and Content Titled: 'Hamilton Palace' with descriptive caption: 'Hamilton Palace, "the seat of his Grace the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon," is without doubt the most magnificent structure of its class in Scotland. The principal front, which faces the north, is 263 feet long, and 60 feet high. It is divided into three flats or stories: a rustic basement floor, the principal floor on which are the public apartments, and a chamber floor above. The front is adorned by a noble portico, which consists of a double row oof Corinthian columns, each column being of one solid block of stones, and surmounted by a lofty pediment. The Palace stands on a level plain, of 500 acres in extent, between the river Clyde and the Town of Hamilton; and the extent of its policy and park is 1400 acres'.
