On-line Digital Images On-line Digital Images DP 174902 Air photograph of the complex at Alisra, looking N. The kiln building and storehouse are visible beyond the shadow cast by the cliff, and beyond that is a cottage, presumably housing the lime workers. The line of a quay can be discerned just below the water. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level

The line of a quay can be discerned just below the water. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level
On-line Digital Images On-line Digital Images DP 174904 General survey of the Alisra lime kiln site. The kilns are towards the upper left, with an enclosure wall fronting the right-hand, presumably earlier kiln. A ramped track leads from the lower ground to kiln-top level. The rectangular building at centre can be identified as a store, with an attached annexe to the north which may be an explosives magazine. The building at far right, with a hearth at each end, is presumably a workers’ bothy, while the footings of what appears to be a quay can be identified on the foreshore. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level
On-line Digital Images On-line Digital Images DP 174905 The Alisra lime-kilns. That on the right appears to be the earlier, and the walling which overlies its top and obscures all trace of a pot suggests that it was decommissioned when the larger left-hand kiln was built against it. The later kiln appears to be loaded with a limestone charge that was never burnt. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level
On-line Digital Images On-line Digital Images DP 174906 The rectangular building at Alisra identified as a store, with an attached annexe to the north which may be an explosives magazine. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level
On-line Digital Images On-line Digital Images DP 174907 General view of the site from the quarry top. At centre foreground is a batch of stones prepared for loading into the kiln, the circular upper pot of which can be seen beyond. Beyond the kiln is the roofless storehouse. Further up the slope are the remains of a ruined cottage, which presumably housed the lime workers. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level

Further up the slope are the remains of a ruined cottage, which presumably housed the lime workers. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level
On-line Digital Images On-line Digital Images DP 174909 The limestone outcrop and quarry at Alisra from seaward. The kiln with its distinctive draw-arch can be seen near the right of the picture. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level
On-line Digital Images On-line Digital Images DP 174910 The kiln building at Alisra with the quarry in the background. The main structure, evidently still operational at the time of its abandonment, is on the left, with its well-constructed draw-arch. The slightly lower structure on the right, which has a small arched stoke-hole now largely filled in, was probably an earlier kiln. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level

The main structure, evidently still operational at the time of its abandonment, is on the left, with its well-constructed draw-arch. The slightly lower structure on the right, which has a small arched stoke-hole now largely filled in, was probably an earlier kiln. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level
On-line Digital Images On-line Digital Images DP 174912 The kiln building at Alisra with the quarry in the background. The main structure, evidently still operational at the time of its abandonment, is on the left, with its well-constructed draw-arch. The slightly lower structure on the right, which has a small arched stoke-hole now largely filled in, was probably an earlier kiln. The early kiln is fronted by a low enclosure wall. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level

On-line Digital Images On-line Digital Images DP 174916 Packed pieces of graded limestone forming an inverted dome inside the main kiln at Alisra. The void created would be for setting the initiating fire. Scale 50 centimetres. (Colin Martin) 2005 Item Level
