Description Headstone of Walter Innes in Ardtannes (d.1616) and his wife, Majory Elphinstone (d.1622). Print captioned:'Tombstone of Walter Innes, of Ardtannes, Inverurie, and his wife Marjorie Elphinstone, now in Inverurie Churchyard. Tradition says that when Marjorie (pronouned Mary-Orie-Orie) Elphinstone was buried, the grave-digger opened the coffin and in endeavouring to take the rings from her fingers awakened her from the trance into which she had fallen. She is said to have returned to Ardtannes and lived for several years afterwards.'
