Scope and Content The collection comprises reports and photographs relating to archaeological investigations and architectural recording by Shetland Amenity Trust. Material includes documentary archive from excavations at Catpund, Hamar and the Old House, Underhoull, and photographs of Links House, Mid Yell, and Old Olnafirth Church, Voe.

Archive History The collection comprises material periodically donated to RCAHMS by the Trust on completion of projects.

Administrative History Shetland Amenity Trust was established in 1983 with the aim of safeguarding, enhancing and promoting Shetland’s cultural and natural heritage, covering both physical environment and intangible heritage such as tradition, and dialect. The Trust also provides a county archaeologist service on behalf of the Shetland Islands Council. Among a wide range of archaeological and architectural programmes supported by the Trust are the curation of Shetland’s archaeology and the protection and restoration of its architectural heritage, its development as a resource for both education and enjoyment, the enhancement of visual amenity, and the fostering of traditional skills. Projects include the development of Old Scatness Broch and Iron Age Village as a visitor attraction, the restoration of Belmont House, repairs to Lerwick Town Hall, and the redevelopment of Sumburgh Head.
