Scope and Content This three-storeyed, five-bayed tenement is located at the easten end of the Canongate, and has been incorporated into part of the Scottish Parliament. Dating from the 19th century, it previously had flats in the upper floors with shops on the ground floor. It occupied the north-western corner of the Abbey Brewery site, and part of the brewery boundary wall remains to the west (right). When the tenement was converted during the development of the Scottish Parliament site (1999-2004) to become part of the Scottish Parliament, the windows of the upper floors have been recessed well back from the facade, giving the impression that the building is derelict and empty. However at ground floor, the shop frontage has been utilised with the insertion of large plate glass windows, containing information panels. The roof has been glazed over to allow light into the building from above.
