Scope and Content Aerial view of Lagavulin Distillery, Islay, Argyll Lagavulin is an example of the type of distillery that gradually developed after early 19th-century changes in the law made commercial distilling easier. This view shows the isolated position of the distillery complex. Like other distilleries on Islay, it was sited for direct access to sea-transport. Much of its whisky was taken to Campbeltown, and used to make blended whisky, such as 'White Horse' brand. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
