C14 Radiocarbon Dating - Sample - UtC-1484

Return to Index

Scottish Radiocarbon Database

UtC-1484

Human bone from a young adult inhumation in the NW corner of a cist in a rock cut tomb. The bone was in very poor condition and came from a mixed deposit including neonate bones (see UtC 1485 4100+/-50) and also fragments from a cremation probably that in a nearby urn (UtC-1487 3620+/-50 BP) (Lorimer in Dalland 1999, 399). Lack of detail in the report about the actual sample dated leaves it possible that there was cross-contamination; the condition of the bone makes it unlikely that pure collagen was dated.
