Sample CH06#37 Context 1369 Floor layer in House 1370 (the second floor layer in the northern roundhouse). Deposit of laminated black and orange lenses of peat ash forming a floor layer above fill layer 2210 and sealed by clean windblown sand (1205).( The first floor layer, 2211 below 2210, is dated by barley grains to 1260-970 cal BC[GU-10647] and 1390-1110 cal BC [GU-10648]. ) Site Phase 9. The carbonised barley grain is most likely to have been deposited as the result of activities within the house in which material became charred from contact with the hearth fire. Very little time is likely to have elapsed between the seed's charring and its incorporation into the archaeological context of the floor deposit.
